Flood victims go online to locate missing boats

IN the wake of the devastating Queensland floods, boat owners in the region who have had craft washed away by the deluge can now look to Facebook for help.

The Facebook page “What happened to my boat? Bundy 2013” has been set up to help owners find their boats, after hundreds of craft were washed from their moorings in the flood that swept through Bundaberg.

Resident of Bundaberg and owner of local business Wide Bay Social Media, Dan Willersdorf said “Boats have been marooned on streets in Bundaberg, cane fields, and beaches all along the coast.”

“After many boat owners lost boats only 2 years (ago) in a once in a 100 year flood, this flood took everyone by surprise and due to speed of the rise of flood waters, boat owners had to abandon their boats with no time and strong winds from the ex-tropical cyclone Oswald meant it was unsafe to sail them out to sea.”

Local residents have been posting photos of boats they have seen washed up, and boat owners have been posting descriptions of their boats in the hope of finding their boat.
