The inaugural Forster Fishing Carnival was held in March 2008 with approximately 150 competitors braving wild weather conditions to make the event a huge success. With more of a carnival feel than a fishing tournament the Forster event was designed as an environmentally friendly for the whole family.
Running for a week from March 20-29 the 2009 Forster Fishing Carnival encompasses two weekends and includes a wide range of angling events to include beginners and experts alike.
Anglers can fish in the general competition for the event’s duration, with prizes given for the best of each eligible species on a daily basis. Major prizes are won via a lucky draw format.
The carnival begins with a briefing at 6pm Friday March 20 and is followed by the first weekend’s competitions: the Wallis Lake Hobie Cat Kayak Classic and the Squidgies Forster Flathead Classic. The carnival starts on the Monday and the weeks events include a two day light gamefishing tournament, snapper on plastics event, 2 day AFC Hobie Cat Kayak Grand Final and culminates in a kids’ day onSaturday 28. The final weekend sees the staging of the ABT Bream Mega Bucks.
The FFC is set up as a non profit organisation, raising funds for the McGrath Foundation appeal for research into breast cancer, Ronald McDonald Forster Beach house, and local schools.
