AS if living on idyllic Lord Howe Island wasn’t sign enough his luck was in, local Zlatan “Frizz” Brcina has also struck the fishing jackpot.
Frizz told Fisho this week he was recently fishing at LHI’s Blinky Beach at dusk using a squid bait, Wilson rod and a Daiwa Exceler reel spooled with 15kg line when he hooked and landed the bonefish pictured. According to Frizz the fight lasted between five and eight minutes and the bone weighed between five and six kilograms – the sort of fish that would put many fly fishers in a tizz… (apologies!)
As Fisho has previously reported, bonefish captures are nothing new for Lord Howe Island anglers. Dion Nobbs managed to catch bonefish from the rocks and beach at LHI using metal lures a couple of years back (details here and here).
Legendary LHI fishing guide Gary Crombie told Fisho Frizz’s catch is “not as big as the biggest [bonefish] I’ve seen here (21.5lbs in the old language) but still a beauty.”
It sure is Frizz, congratulations!
