Funding for rec fishing projects up for grabs

MILLIONS of dollars from the sale of recreational fishing licences in NSW is now available for rec fishing groups, individual anglers, councils and community organisations to improve recreational fishing in their local areas.

“The money from the sale of recreational fishing licences each year in NSW is placed into two trusts, one for saltwater and the other for freshwater,” said Minister for Primary Industries, Steve Whan.

“This is a great opportunity to get some worthwhile community fishing projects happening, which will benefit recreational fishers in NSW.”

Anyone can apply for funding from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts, including local councils, fishing clubs, individuals, organisations and universities. Joint applications are also encouraged.

The minister said the allocation of the trust funds is recommended by committees of rec fishers.

Applications for funding close on Wednesday, 16 February 2011.

Funding applications must benefit recreational fishing. Contributing funding and in-kind support, such as voluntary labour, is encouraged.
