Game fishing club celebrates 50th year

2011 marks the 50th Anniversary for Sydney’s Broken Bay Game Fishing Club.

To celebrate the milestone, the club has published a book recording its colourful 50 year history and restored all of its trophies and memorabilia. The club’s facilities at Broken Bay’s Royal Motor Yacht Club have also been refurbished and a new “Marlin Bar” has been built to display 50 years of trophies.

This year also sees the Broken Bay GFC stage its 18th Invitational Tournament on the weekend of March 19/20. this year’s event has attracted a record $140,000 in sponsorship – to be shared amongst all participating anglers as well as the prize winners. Last year’s Invitational attracted 74 vessels and 310 anglers from all over NSW and scored a remarkable 235 game fish over two days, including 193 black, striped and blue marlin and a 576kg tiger shark.

Event organisers are hopeful THAT representatives of all Australasian game fishing clubs will help celebrate Broken Bay GFC’s 50th year. All anglers are welcome and charter boat facilities for teams and accommodation can be arranged through the club.
