Grey nurse shark info sessions for South Coast

NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) is holding three community information sessions along the South Coast this week to answer questions on the current review of grey nurse shark protection.

NSW DPI, Manager Fisheries Ecosystems, Sarah Fairfull, said NSW DPI officers will be on hand at the sessions to provide copies of the discussion paper and answer any questions.

“The discussion paper has been prepared to form the basis for community consultation on the future of grey nurse shark protection arrangements in NSW,” Ms Fairfull said.

“These community information sessions are an opportunity for members of the community to come along and ask questions about the discussion paper. A range of advisory material will be available at the information sessions including copies of the discussion paper, submission forms and background papers,” she said.

The information sessions will be held at the following locations:

  • Narooma – Tuesday 26 July at the Narooma Golf Club, 1 Ballingalla Street from 3.30pm to 7.30pm
  • Batemans Bay – Wednesday 27 July at the Batemans Bay Community Centre, Meeting Room 2, 2 Museum Place from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Oak Flats – Thursday 28 July at the Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre, 44 Fisher Street from 4.00pm to 7.30pm.

There is no need to register in advance or to RSVP to attend. The public is invited make a submission on the issues raised in the discussion paper and on future management arrangements for the protection and recovery of grey nurse sharks in NSW.

Submissions close on Friday 26 August 2011.
