The accompanying photos feature bar cod weighing a massive 40kg and 80kg and caught off Lord Howe Island. The successful angler was Scott Moane, who had reportedly just received a new Shimano Torsa 30/filled with 80lb Jigman braid and matching Daiwa Monster Mesh rod from mainland Australia. In a 5.5m Quintrex runabout fishing 160 to 200ms of water at one of the deep walls around Lord Howe, the first bait down resulted in the “small” bar cod,the next drift the 80kg model – later going 76kg cleaned.
