MOST recreational anglers in Victoria do the right thing and are supportive of laws designed to ensure great fishing now and into the future.
It was disappointing this week when Fisheries Officers found two men fishing for trout in the Goulburn River out of season.
The men were found with nine trout between them. The fish were a mixture of brown trout and rainbow trout, averaging 41cm, that had been caught near Alexandra.
The two men will receive infringements notices for:
– fishing seasonally closed waters
– taking/possessing salmonids during the closed season, and
– taking more than the catch limit.
Anglers are reminded that certain waters are closed to all ‘hook and line’ fishing during the salmonid closed season, and that during this period they must not take or possess salmonids.
It is also an offence to possess a ‘hook and line’ within 20m of the banks of prescribed waters during the closed season, including the Goulburn River and all of its inflowing tributaries between the Eildon Pondage and Trawool Bridge.
