VICTORIA’S rec fishing representative organisation VRFish has released its Inland Fishery Habitat Policy.
VRFish says the policy defines the organisation’s principles and objectives for the management and protection of inland fish habitats throughout Victoria.
The policy will be used to provide guidance to VRFish staff and Committee members and will assist in responding to changes in environmental conditions, impacts to water quality, quantity and flow (such as drought, bushfires and environmental flows), the management practices implemented by catchment and waterway managers and landowners and in-general changes in community expectations.
The policy applies to all inland fisheries habitats in Victorian rivers, wetlands and defined water storage reservoirs, excluding estuaries – VRFish will be developing an estuary and marine policy in the future.
