LAST month NSW DPI stocked 7000 juvenile kingfish into Botany Bay Recreational Fishing Haven and another 3000 kingfish into Lake Macquarie Recreational Fishing Haven to enhance local fishing opportunities. These fish will provide a fantastic boost to the existing local kingfish populations and will give better fishing opportunities for anglers.
NSW DPI researchers will closely monitor these stocked fish to assess impacts, monitor their movements and residency, as well as evaluate the contribution of the fish to the local recreational fishery. This will inform any future stockings to ensure we continue to follow best practice to minimise any environmental impacts whilst maximising the returns from the stocked fish. Thanks to ANSA NSW for assisting to secure contributing funding for this stocking project.
