NATHAN Debono was the lucky angler that recaptured Lake Macquarie’s first “trophy” flathead tagged under the NSW DPI Fisheries trophy flathead tagging program.
“I was chasing flathead on soft plastics only about 200-300m from where it was first tagged,” says Nathan.
The flathead measured 72cm in length and was released in very good condition with the same tag still firmly in place after a couple of quick photos. It was first tagged by Corey Reid on the November 28, 2017, and recaptured by Nathan on the November 31.
Just over 30 trophy flathead have been tagged in the lake so far. Well done Nathan!
