QUEENSLAND Premier Anna Bligh’s election promise to build new boat ramps in Moreton Bay has drawn claims of hypocrisy from the opposition LNP, with shadow minister for sustainable environment and climate change David Gibson questioning why Labor would spend money on new boat ramps in areas recently declared as no-fishing zones.
“Labor is just fishing for votes having spent the last 11 years treating Moreton Bay’s fishing families like environmental vandals,” Gibson said.
“Anna Bligh and Labor have realised that they have alienated the entire Moreton Bay fishing community in order to catch green preferences and are trying to buy them back with boat ramps which was a policy lifted
from the LNP,” Mr Gibson said.
As reported in last week’s Marine Business e-newsletter, the LNP has promised to review the contentious Moreton Bay Marine Park established by the Bligh Government and allow recreational fishing in so-called “green” zones during the review process.
The LNP had a clear policy to strike the right balance between the environment and the rights of recreational fishermen, Gibson said.
