THE Western Australian Government has announced significant and targeted management actions along the WA coast to rebuild demersal fish stocks.
This includes new demersal recreational fishing rules, which will be in place from 1 June 2026.
The new rules will apply outside the West Coast Bioregion.
Key changes include:
- A mixed demersal bag limit of four demersal fish per person per day (previously five)
- Dhufish reduced to one fish. Coral trout, coronation trout and western blue groper remain at one fish per species.
- Pink snapper, red emperor and tuskfish species (including baldchin groper and bluebone) reduced to two per species.
- On the South Coast, nannygai remain outside the mixed demersal limit, with a bag limit of four fish per person per day.
- The size limit for pink snapper and red emperor will now be 45 cm.
