Push for Recreational Fishing Haven gains momentum

AS Fisho reported early this month the Anglers Action Group is making a push for the Pittwater area north of Sydney to be declared a rec-only fishing haven.

This week Andrew Tiede from the AAG contacted Fisho with an update on the initiative’s progress. He reported that the MP for Pittwater, Rob Stokes – a strong advocate of the proposal – believes more progress has been made on ending commercial netting in the Pittwater area in the past month than in the last seven or eight years.

Stokes has reportedly received around 250 emails/letters supporting the Pittwater rec-only push and has said; “I’ve been overwhelmed by the size of the response to this initiative and the professionalism of the effort by the Pittwater Community”.

The Anglers Action Group is now awaiting an announcement from the minister for Primary Industries Katrina Hodginson on a review of certain aspects of professional fishing, after which an evaluation period is expected before a final decision announcement is made.

To help with the decision, the Anglers Action Group urges supporters of the initiative to contact the minister and voice their views at: office@hodgkinson.minister.nsw.gov.au.
