Push on for Central Coast Rec Fishing Havens

IN the lead-up to next month’s state election, a NSW Central Coast community-based group has called for the banning of commercial fishing in the Hawkesbury River and Tuggerah Lakes.

A full-page advertisement appearing in today’s Daily Telegraph newspaper points out that while commercial fishing is banned in Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay and Lake Macquarie, it’s “Open Go (for commercial nets) on Hawkesbury and Tuggerah Lakes”.

The advertisment placed by a group known as the Central Coast Taskforce and championed by the Telegraph’s own campaign – Our Forgotten Coast:, challenges current NSW premier Mike Baird and Opposition Leader Luke Foley to help revitalise tourism and provide more measures to protect the marine environment in the Central Coast region.

While further details of the campaign are unavailable at this stage, Fisho understands today’s ad will be followed up tomorrow, Tuesday February 10, with a public phone-in segment on the Ray Hadley Morning Show on radio station 2GB.

If you want to make a case for rec fishing havens on the Central Coast, make sure you call the program between 9-12am.

What's your reaction?
