A BEACHGOER in Queensland has been fined the sum of $1178 for intentionally driving over fishing nets of a licensed commercial fisher, when the fisher was trying to retrieve fish.

The ocean beach fishery is a heavily regulated fishery with only a small number of fishers holding a licence, and this limits where and when they can fish, what fish they can catch and the size of their nets.

We remind beachgoers to keep a safe distance while the crews are hard at work catching mullet to send to the marketplace.

For information about the ocean beach fishery visit the Queensland Fisheries website.
