THIS image shows a haul of dead mulloway netted in an estuary not far from Sydney. With only 5% of NSW mulloway biomass remaining, Fisheries Minister Niall Blair MLC needs to act NOW to save this iconic species. The fact is that 75% of the 80 tonnes of mulloway caught in NSW by commercial netters are under the legal length of 70 cm.
Minister Blair, this must stop! The netters MUST adhere to the same size limits as recreational fishers. They can’t continue destroying our mulloway stocks by slaughtering undersized fish!
Astute Fisho readers will recall that editor Scott Thomas has previously called into question the effectiveness of the Mulloway Recovery Program, saying that is has failed to deliver.
