Report: Huge EP eats jewie lure!

KEEN Sydney-based fisho Tim Angus reports he ventured out last Saturday to fish the prolific Hawkesbury River for jewies. While the weather wasn’t exactly ideal, the effort proved worthwhile…

“We set out late morning on the Hawkesbury, targeting jewfish on soft plastics. With strong winds, and miserable weather we didn’t have high hopes,” Angus told Fisho.

“We had success on the morning tide change converting a school jew and a handful of flatties. Once the tide turned we headed further up the Hawkesbury – still with jewfish on our minds.”

“I spotted a nice pressure edge coming from a rock near the shore, and put my plastic in the area as there was a nice eddy forming.”

Angus was using a Squidgy Flickbait which he reports was eaten on the drop. Following a reasonably uneventful fight on 10lb gear the EP seen hereabouts popped up to the surface.

“We knew it was a big EP, but not having caught one before – didn’t really know how big…”

Angus says he spoke to Fisho writer Chris Cleaver, who confirmed that the EP, which measured 57cm, was a cracker!

Angus says the estuary perch which was caught out of season (see related story) was “very healthy, and released well”.

Nice by-catch Tim!
