Report & Video: Five-way tuna hook up

THE winter run of tuna is well underway on the NSW south coast, according to keen angler and Fisho reader Tim Angus.

Tim reports he was fishing off Bermagui on the NSW far south coast last Saturday on the  150.40 line directly east of town, on board On Call a 7m Trophy owned by Josh Batterson. Also on board were Mike Kristen and Sophie.

According to Tim they had a lot of success trolling Rapala Magnum 30 lures in the new exclusive Aussie colours “yakka” and “squid”. They also ran small skirted lures on outriggers and a Halco on the shotgun. All hard-bodied lures were modified with a single Jobu 8/0 in the belly.

The team ended up successfully landing six bluefin for the trip, of which three were released. A five-way hookup was a big highlight! (See video below).

Tim also reports other boats fishing in the same area encountered good numbers of fish. The biggest tuna weighed on Saturday was 103kg, with the average around 30-40kg.
