EARLY this week the NSW Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) was awarded funding to comtinue its tireless efforts to reduce rock fishing related drownings in the state.
The Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mike Gallacher announced 11/12 Water Safety Black Spot Funding recipients including the RFA which was awarded $321,000 to continue its ongoing safety programs.
Malcolm Poole, chairman of the RFA said the organisation and its members will be working with project partners, industry organisations, and community groups over the next 12 months to reduce drowning related fishing fatalities in NSW.
The RFA now awaits an announcement from Primary Industries Minister, Katrina Hodgkinson in relation to funding for Recreational Fishing Safety Officer applications, currently under consideration from the NSW Fishing Trusts and the Advisory Council of Recreational Fishing.
