This year’s Sofala Carp Blitz will be the tenth successive year of removing carp from the Turon River.

ORGANISERS of the Sofala Carp Blitz say this year’s event be their tenth successive year of removing carp from the Turon River, educating young anglers about the negative impacts carp have on our inland waterways, and raising money for native fish recovery by restocking the Turon River with Murray cod and golden perch.

The Sofala branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society would like to thank Fishing World magazine, Inland Waterways Rejuvenation Association, Central Tablelands Local Land Services, BCF Bathurst, NSW DPI Fisheries and Pure Fishing, who have been major supporters since the first event in 2009.

According to the organisers, the event has helped many youngsters get interested in the great sport of fishing, which they will be able to enjoy throughout their lives. The numbers of juniors registering increases every year.

The event will start 7 am on Saturday, with registrations costing only a $2 gold coin donation, and will wind up with a 2.30 pm final weigh in on Sunday. The raffle draw, auction and presentation will start about 3 pm Sunday.

Each year half the money raised in the auction is donated to charity. This year the money will go to Kids with Cancer Foundation.
Fishing is permitted in the Turon and Crudine Rivers, and also the Macquarie River along the Bridle Track below Hill End.
Only carp and redfin will be weighed. Anglers are reminded that Murray cod season is closed until December 1.
