If the LNP wins government in the upcoming Queensland state election it would establish an independent and scientific environmental study into the Moreton Bay Marine Park, LNP Leader Lawrence Springborg has said.
The scientific study conducted under a LNP government would be done by qualified scientists, Springborg said. He claimed Premier Anna Bligh’s Labor Government used a university student’s Ph.D thesis as the basis for locking away recreational fishing areas in the newly created park.
“Fishing is one of the most popular recreations for Queenslanders and Anna Bligh has shut them out of Moreton Bay all in the name of saving her own job through preferences,” Springborg said.
“The LNP will balance the environment of Moreton Bay with the rights of recreational fishermen.”
The study would be conducted over a year. During this time existing green zones would remain – however, anglers would be allowed to fish in green zones with a one line per person policy.
An LNP government would allocate $3 million for the study.
