ROUND two of the 2012 Squidgie Southern Bream Series was held the weekend of 18th-19th February on picturesque St Georges Basin.
122 (75 boats and 47 kayak) teams hit the water on Saturday the 18th February for the first day of the two day round. Team www.elitetrainingsystems.com.au weighed in a nice 3.74 kg 5/5 bag to take an early lead in the boating section. For the kayak section Chris Burbidge was top of the board after day one with a 3/3 2.12kg bag.
Sunday bought another beautiful St Georges Basin day for the second half of SSBS qualifying round two. In the boating section 2nd placed after day one Honda Marine/Ecogear Anglers – Steve Gill and Brad Balding – weighed in a 5/5 2.86kg bag to go with their 5/5 3.545kg day one bag, giving a total 10/10 6.405kg. This secured Steve and Brad first place. They walked away with a $4500 winners cheque, two packs of Mako Eyewear sunglasses and a qualification to the years ABT classic grand final, well done boys.
Second place went to Team Primed – Simon Moore and Shane De La Mare – with a 10/10 6.270kg bag. Third place belonged to Hunts Marine – Troy Parsons and Anthony Myerscough – with a 10/10 6.020kg bag. Both these teams have also qualified for the ABT Classic grand final.
A very nice 1.585kg basin brute saw Team Agro Dog (Scott Greenaway and Russ McIntosh) take out the Damiki Big Bream for this round.
The kayak section saw Victorian Matt Petrie (Scott Lovig Hobie) come from 6th place after day one to take first place with a 6/63.93kg bag. Matt secured himself the $1500 winners cheque, Hobie Prize Pack and Shimano Rod/Reel combo. Matt also qualified for the Hobie ABT kayak grand final and booked himself a spot in the Kayak World Championships to be held in USA next year.
www.lureandfly.com angler Josh Carpenter took second place in the kayak section, with a very respectable 6/6 3.855kg bag, including a monster 1.39kg specimen which saw Josh also take home the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Big Bream Kayak cash. Josh will also be heading to the USA for the world championships as the second placed angler for this round.
Jason Lambert rounded out the podium for the kayak section with a very nice 6/6 3.75kg bag. Jason and Josh have both qualified for the Hobie ABT kayak grand final at the Bemm River in November.
