Stats point to productive fishery

EARLY this week Fisho reported on last weekend’s successful 2012 Canobolas Marine Lake Burrendong Classic – details HERE.

During the catch & release event all fish caught by competitors were recorded, as were the catch methods. The catch statistics make for interesting reading – see below. 

Catch stats from 2012 Canobolas Marine Lake Burrendong Classic

  • A total of 1,580 fish were caught at the event, which consisted of 1,075 redfin and carp, and 505 native fish.
  • Native species caught included: 306 yellowbelly/golden perch; 171 catfish; 26 silver perch; 2 Murray cod.
  • 170 native fish were entered by junior angler and 335 natives were entered by senior anglers. 
  • Bait accounted for: 205 yellowbelly/golden perch (102 on yabbies. 62 on worms. 23 on shrimp. 18 on prawns.) 155 catfish- (67 on yabbies. 63 on worms. 22 on shrimp. 2 on prawns. 1 on grub.) 24 silver perch- (21 on worms. 3 on yabbies) 1 Murray cod- (1 on worms.)
  • Lures accounted for: 101 yellowbelly/golden perch (32 on hard body/bibbed; 34 on plastics; 19 on Jackal; 8 on Oargee; 3 on blades; 2 on spinnerbait; 3 on Stump jumper) 16 catfish (7 on hard body/bibbed; 6 on Jackal; 2 on soft plastic; 1 on spinnerbait.)3 silver perch ( 2 on Jackal’s; 1 on Wilson’s Strikeback.)1 Murray cod (1 on RMG).
  • Fish caught in the AM – 313
  • Fish caught in the PM – 191
