Sydney rock fishing fatality

A fishing trip ended in tragedy yesterday when a Sydney man fell to his death while climbing down to a popular rockfishing ledge.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death at Maroubra in Sydney’s south-east yesterday.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, late yesterday afternoon a 43-year-old man and his friend parked their vehicle in a nearby street with the intention of doing some rock fishing. The man’s friend walked down the steep five metre rock ledge at the northern end of Marine Parade and started walking onto the rock flat to start fishing when he heard a loud thud.

The man looked behind to see his friend lying at the bottom of the rock ledge.

Emergency Services were called to the scene, however, the Kellyville man was unable to be revived.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
