Take 10 – Fisho Q&A

1 Name and birthplace?
Brad Job, Southport Queensland

2 When did you first start fishing?
My Mum and Dad gave me a Little Jim Deluxe rod and an Alvey reel for my 6th birthday in 1966. I was hooked from then on.

3 When did you start writing for Fisho?
Late ’80s.

4 What’s your favourite form of fishing?
I really don’t have a favourite. I just enjoy any type of fishing no matter what I am targeting. I think as a rod builder I have to diversify and not just target one type of fishing.

5 What do you enjoy about writing for a fishing magazine?
It’s nice to pass on some knowledge that I have been lucky enough to have learnt over the years. I also enjoy it when someone comes up to me and says they built a rod I wrote about in Fisho and they are rapt with the outcome.

Brad and son Ben celebrate a blue marlin capture on the Gold Coast.

6 Who do you most admire in the fishing media and why?
I have always had a soft spot for Rex Hunt. I loved his passion with promoting fishing as the best recreational activity any of us can experience. He was a pioneer in promoting catch and release and encouraging kids to start fishing at the grass roots level where your real fishing skills are learnt.

7 What do you reckon is the best or most satisfying article you’ve written for Fisho?
The next one!

8 What camera gear do you use?
Canon EOS 40D with either a Canon 17-40mm lens or a Canon 70-200mm lens.

9 What advice can you give anyone wanting to get into the fishing media?
Just try it, but it’s hard to put down your rod and take photos during a hot bite.

10 What’s your favourite fishing destination?
I love the Northern Territory and its wilderness. Maybe it’s not knowing whether you’re the hunter or the hunted!

Brad loves fishing the Top End, not surprising when he lands barra like this one taken on the Daly River.
