Tested: Flats stick

CASTING performance is key when lure fishing the flats and the Samaki Zing Extreme SZX-762SFR that I’ve been using over the past few months has proven to be ideally suited to casting ultra-light surface lures, soft plastics and hard bodies at whiting, bream and dusky flathead.

This versatile 7 foot 6 inch long, 2 to 6lb ultra light threadline rod would also be fantastic for lure fishing for trout and bass or even fishing lightly weighted baits for finicky flats feeders such as whiting and bream.

Constructed from premium Japanese Toray carbon fibre, this two-piece blank provides superb casting performance while having plenty of power in the bottom end thanks to the X-weave carbon wrap around the butt section. The build quality exudes the class I’ve come to expect from Samaki rods and features tangle free Fuji “K” series guides and a sophisticated butt construction featuring a Fuji reel seat, EVA camo grips and an AA cork butt with carbon ring bling. I also really like the addition of a hook keeper above the fore grip for lure rigged threadline outfits.

If you’re looking for an ultra-light flats lure fishing spin rod I’d suggest you check out the Samaki Zing Extreme SZX-762SFR – it’s a beauty!
