The Quantum Tour Edition 100HPT baitcasting reel sits at the top of range in the Quantum line-up and features a classic teardrop design with a glossy titanium coating and attractive metallic red highlights.
The slick star drag knob adds to the reel’s styling while a striking carbon fibre handle rounds out the aesthetics and ensures the overall weight of the reel is kept to a minimum. A 7:1 gear ratio allows the angler to retrieve almost 70cm of line for each turn of the handle while 11 polymer hybrid bearings allow the reel to spin freely and effortlessly. The spool on this particular model is v-shaped to assist with line flow when casting and is drilled to improve overall weight and balance. The left side plate features a
micro adjustable centrifugal cast control system which seemed to do its job without any major surprises in the limited testing to date. This ultra light spool is rated to hold 110 yards of 12lb mono.
As with other reels at the upper end of the Quantum series, the TE 100HPT features a ceramic drag stack with a reported maximum drag pressure of 9kg. The reel is built on a solid, one-piece aluminium frame with aluminium side covers for strength and durability. Whilst this reel may be better suited to bass or barra, I tested the reel on the north coast snapper we encountered at Coffs recently and managed to land a 5kg model with relative ease. The drag was silky smooth and consistent while the reel did not miss a beat at any time.
Time was against me with this reel and I reluctantly had to hand it over to one of the other Fisho team members to conduct the long term test under more appropriate conditions – stay tuned for future updates.
The Quantum Tour Edition 100HPT Baitcaster is towards the upper end of pricing with a suggested
retail price of $499 and weighs in at about 212grams.
