VICs get busy on fish habitat

VRFish reports that May was a busy month due to the looming closure of Victoria’s Recreational Fishing Grants Program (Large Grants) round. Over $300 thousand dollars worth of funding applications were reportedly received.

VRFish says it received some excellent fish habitat improvement project applications from recreational fishing clubs; a sign Victoria’s recreational fishers are becoming more and more active in river health and fish habitat conservation issues.

The state’s rec fishing body is also currently involved with the MSV’s Boating Safety and Facilities Program. A meeting was recently held with Wellington Shire and major stakeholders to outline the next steps for McLoughlins Beach boat ramp improvements.

VRFish will be working on Werribee River fishing platforms and a number of other projects from last year’s RFGP round.

Fishos with project ideas are encouraged to contact Ben Scullin, VRFish Grants and Projects Officer on email: ben@vrfish.com.au
