THE Victorian Fisheries Authority has revealed that of 500 tagged mulloway – that are part of a study funded by recreational fishing licence fees – 81 have been recaptured so far.
Seven of the recaptured fish have been caught twice and one, tagged in November 2018 in the Glenelg River, has been recaptured three times.
Interestingly, over half of the recaptures (55) have been in the same estuary the fish was initially tagged and released in.
The greatest distance travelled by one of the tagged fish was in the Glenelg River where a mulloway swam 24km, from town bridge to Saplings Creek in 90 days.
In the Hopkins River, four fish have been recaptured in the same system.
Stay tuned for more mulloway updates.
