THE giant crab is one of the largest crabs in the world, reaching nearly 20kg and a carapace width of up to 50cm.

Victoria is home to these monsters of the deep, which are taken in specially made crab traps in depths of up to 400 metres.

According to the Victorian Fisheries Authority, the commercial fishery is subject to strict catch quotas and size limits. Licence holders are reporting lots of small crabs, which is a great sign for the future.

Oh, and yes, they taste pretty good too!

What's your reaction?
