MOST fishers know how important snags are to Murray Cod and that programs are in place to reverse the clearance of snags from our inland rivers. Unfortunately many of our coastal rivers have also been heavily desnagged and, because the riparian zone has often been cleared, the creation of new snags from falling trees is less and less common. This great video by Dylan van der Meulen at NSW DPI shows us one of these snags in the Shoalhaven River in NSW and how important it is. Luckily NSW DPI Fisheries and organisations like Ozfish Unlimited currently working on a number of projects to reintroduce wooden habitat into NSW estuaries.
