FISHING World yesterday spoke to charter operator Shane Crockett of Forster Sport & Gamefishing who recently had a great white shark encounter off the NSW Mid North Coast.
Crockett runs a 28-foot Profisher charter and commercial fishing boat out of Forster/Tuncurry and told Fisho he was out late last week two miles off the coast in forty feet of water when a berley trail raised something larger than the bonito he’d been catching.
A great white shark Crockett estimated to be “about twelve foot long” appeared and swam to the boat’s stern before doing a few laps around the vessel.
Crockett says the shark tried to bite the boat’s engine leg before eventually swimming off to do the same to a smaller 18′ boat fishing nearby.
