Seal attacks blue groper

SYDNEY Fly Fishing guide Justin Duggan captured these incredible shots which were published in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph. The photos were taken at Broken Bay north of Sydney.

“As it came out of the water it would fling the fish violently from side to side,” Duggan told The Daily Telegraph.

“It’s the only way they can tear off chunks of the fish, by using the fish’s own weight, they can’t get the purchase underwater to bite off a chunk,” he said.

Blue groper is protected in NSW from spears and nets and is also NSW’s official state fish. No word yet from environment groups who will no doubt seek a ban on seals from areas blue groper are known to frequent.
