TESTED: Samaki Bomb Shad

OVER the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to field test the new range of Boom Bait soft plastics released by Samaki. The model that has proven ideally suited to fishing my local estuaries has been the Bomb Shad. This paddle tail soft plastic is constructed from 10X strong super stretch material and comes in 3, 4 and 5 inch sizes.

First trip out testing the Bomb Shad I landed a heap of flathead, bream, tailor and flounder. Then on the second trip I landed my best Lake Macquarie jewfish on the 4 inch Nuked Chook colour. The Bomb Shad comes in ten different colours and features a unique easy rigging system that ensures correct hook alignment regardless of rigging technique. While these lures are scented, I also like the the ribbed sections at the head and tail to hold any extra attractant that you want to use.

The seductive paddle tail action allows the use of a wide range of retrieve styles from a super slow roll when chasing barra or Murray cod through to the aggressive jigging action required at times to get a reaction bite from a big dusky flathead. The durability of this tough paddle tail allows me to fish amongst the bait schools where chopper tailor normally decimate my tails and also around snaggy bottom where trebles tend to get hung up.
