Few fishing styles are as relaxing yet sometimes so frustrating as beach fishing. While one of the simplest forms of fishing available, it can also be one of the most complex and specialised if you decide to pursue individual species on specific tackle. I have to admit to years of early frustration honing my beach reading, rigging and fishing skills. Even now I can have days where I find myself scratching my head and wondering what went wrong. Admittedly, I live in Sydney and our home beaches are amongst the most pressured in the nation, but returning fishless hurts regardless.
There’s an almost limitless array of beach fishing options, locations and tactics on offer to Aussie fishos. This makes it a style of fishing you could spend a lifetime perfecting. Back to basics bait fishing is the focus of this brief feature article. Hopefully these tips, tactics and techniques will shortcut your path to catching a feed of top class fillets for family and friends at your dinner table.
