A TOTAL of 500 tagged rainbow trout have been released into Oberon Dam in NSW as part of a long term stocking strategy for the dam to combat predation from redfin. The fish were 22cm in length. It is thought that larger trout will do better in the presence of redfin, which have had a negative effect on Oberon Dam since they were illegally introduced five years ago.
The tags have a yellow plastic streamer and are located near to the dorsal fin of the fish. Recreational fishers who land one of these trout are asked to record their capture information online HERE or by phoning the hotline on 1800 185 027. Information received will help determine how rainbow trout are growing over time. Recreational fishers who submit the tag number and length of their catch will be rewarded with a lure prize in return.
