AFTA Politician/Celebrity Tournament catching on

THE inaugural Politician/Celebrity Fishing Tournament organised by the Australian Fishing Trade Association has caught the heart of the local community with hundreds expected to attend the tournament.

Chief Executive Allan Hansard said “The Tournament to be held on Sunday 3 February 2013, at St Georges Basin NSW is the first of its kind and brings Australia’s pollies together with fishing celebrities and the local community.”

“Recreational fishing is Australia’s biggest sports-leisure activity with over 5 million Australian’s going fishing every year. Known as Australia’s greatest pastime, recreational fishing is woven into the fabric of many local communities, and the response we have had from the Shoalhaven community in response to the tournament strongly reflects that,” Hansard said.

“Because we have been inundated by calls from people wanting to come down and be part of the Tournament atmosphere and watch the Tournament, we have expanded our program. So while our Tournament fishers are out enjoying Australia’s most popular sport, we will be ensuring all those families who want to come down can also enjoy a fun day out.”

AFTA are delighted to be working with Young Guns Fishing Adventures who will be providing “fishy activities” for kids of all ages, including casting clinics, Fish Bingo and yabby races. There will also be stalls providing information on a range of issues, from fishing regulations to water safety.

Bay and Basin Sportfishing will be offering family kayak tours of the unique Basin – come along and join in the fun. Marine Rescue NSW will also be putting on an Aussie sausage sizzle for the spectators who come down and support the day.
