LUKE Giovanetti from the North Coast of NSW recently got a big surprise after he hooked and landed this bonefish at Coffs Harbour.
Luke says he caught the hard-fighting bonefish on 6lb gear using an Atomic 3.75″ Jerk Minnow.
He originally called it for a 10kg jew before it ran 300m along a bar and started doing circles. The fight lasted 35 minutes, and according to Luke, the fish weighed an estimated 5-6kg.
Bonefish are a sought after sportfish and fly target across much of the Pacific and do show up occasionally in Queensland and more commonly in the north of Western Australia. They have been caught as far south as Port Hacking in NSW, but for the most part, are a rare and memorable capture.
