CARP in waterways around Warren in western NSW will be under attack next month as part of the second annual Macquarie Marshes Carp Muster.
“This year’s Macquarie Marshes Carp Muster on the 9th and 10th April builds on a successful event last year which saw over 100 people remove 167 carp from the river system”, said Industry & Investment NSW (I&I NSW) Conservation Management Officer, Rodney Price.
The event has $3,000 in prizes up for grabs and is a fun way to learn more about the devastating impact the introduced carp has on our rivers and native fish.
Price said the Carp Muster coincides with further collaborative carp control work between I&I NSW and the Central West Catchment Management Authority.
“Working with the Central West CMA, we are introducing new carp separation and control technology at strategic locations throughout the iconic Macquarie Marshes.
“The carp separation cages can remove up to 88 per cent of migrating adult carp by drafting them out of the river system into a cage, he said.
At the event a BBQ will be provided by the local Warren Lions Club and entry is free.
All entrants are required to abide by NSW Fishing Rules and Regulations.
