LABOR and the Greens have tonight failed in their Senate attempt to scuttle the Turnbull governmnent’s federal marine park proposal.

According to a report in The Guardian, the disallowance motion in the Senate was rejected with a 28-34 vote in favour of the Government.

Labor and the Greens now have an option to redraft the disallowance and resubmit it in the Senate. The Guardian said this is likely to happen as soon as Wednesday.

Shadow Environment Minister Tony Burke told Twitter: “The only way to increase protection is to change government.”
