Group pushes for moratorium on Marine Parks

A Sydney-based fishing club has clearly had enough of the looming threat of more marine parks in NSW and is gathering a petition to be put to NSW parliament.

The Warringah Anglers Fishing Club has instigated the petition in the hope of procuring a moratorium on marine parks for NSW, and having the controversial report The Torn Blue Fringe removed from consideration by parliament. The report, released by the National Parks Association, proposes an additional five marine parks for NSW covering an area 215,880ha, with fishing bans in 70,000ha.

The proposed Sydney National Park extends from the Royal National Park in Sydney’s south to the NSW Central Coast, covering an area of 103,105ha.

Those interested in signing the petition can download it (in paper form) from the club’s website at: www.warringahanglers.org.au and hopefully get 30-60 signatures, before posting to the club for submission at: Warringah Angler’s Club PO Box 266 Narrabeen NSW, 2101.
