SA fishos rally in lead-up to Marine Parks Amendment Bill

REC fishers in South Australia are being urged to actively support the Opposition’s Marine Parks Amendment Bill which goes to a vote in the House of Assembly next week.

If the Bill doesn’t pass and the proposed no-take zones come into effect on 1 October, South Australians will lose access to some of their best fishing areas and jobs in the commercial fishing sector are expected to be lost.

The Bill is being introduced and voted on next Thursday 18 September between 10.30 and 11.30 am by Steven Griffiths MP, whose electorate includes Port Wakefield and the Yorke Peninsula.

What can you do to support the Bill?

1. A website petition has been set up at: www.saveregionaljobs.com
Sign it and encourage anyone who is passionate about these issues to do the same.

2. Attend the community rally on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide from 7-10 am on Thursday 18 September. A good turnout is essential and boats and trailers are welcome – see flier below.
