Fisherman dies after whale collides with boat

A MAN has died and another is in hospital after a whale collided with a fishing boat off Sydney.

The 61 year old man died after being pulled from the water, while another man, aged 53, has been taken to St George Hospital.

The whale collision reportedly occurred off Cape Banks at La Perouse at 6am on Saturday morning.

Police have been told the 4.8m runabout vessel was likely to have struck or been impacted by a whale breaching, causing the boat to tilt, ejecting both men.

Police said the men were from the Eastern and Southern suburbs of Sydney.

The Foreshore Road Boat Ramp remained closed on Saturday while police investigated the accident.
