The Gaden Trout Hatchery at Jindabyne NSW opens its doors for a Community Open Day on Sunday December 20, 2009.
“The Gaden Hatchery is one of the hidden gems of Jindabyne,” said NSW Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan.
“Some locals have no idea just what we have right here in our own backyard, so the Open Day is a chance to share it.”
“The Gaden Hatchery is famous for being one of Australia’s main breeding centres for cold water sport fish including Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout and rainbow trout but it is so much more than that.”
Whan said the Gaden Hatchery is an ideal location for locals and tourists alike.
The Community Open Day will be held from 11am – 3pm, the local Lions Club will be running a BBQ providing a sausage sizzle and soft drinks for sale. Activities on the day include guided walks around the hatchery, fishing demonstrations, games and prizes for children provided by the Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association.
The Gaden Hatchery is open between 10-4 every day of the year except Christmas Day. Individual, school and group visitors are welcome and a small entry fee applies.
