YOUNGSTERS keen to learn all about beach fishing are being encouraged to get involved in a free fishing clinic at Inverloch on National Gone Fishing Day.

“Come ‘N’ Try Beach Fishing” will teach newcomers the basics, such as where to find fish and bait, what bait to use, species to target, how to rig up, cast and fish safely.

All fishing gear and bait are provided on the day, with expert advice and guidance from Adam Ring from the Talking Fishing show, Fishcare Victoria and the Anderson Inlet Angling Club.

Victoria’s southern surf beaches offer wonderful fishing opportunities for species like Australian salmon, flathead and mullet. Kids will get a chance to source their own bait themselves by learning how to use bait pumps for bass yabbies.

National Gone Fishing Day is the only day in the year people can go fishing without a licence, so everyone throughout in Victoria can give it a go for free. The event is located at Anderson Inlet Angling Club, The Esplanade, on 20 Octoberfrom 9.30am –2pm.

The event is run by the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) and funded by the Victorian Government’s Target One Million plan.
