South east Queensland’s Lenthall’s Dam was boosted by the release of 80,000 Australian bass last weekend.
The fish were released into the dam by members of the Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association. As well as boosting the impoundment’s bass numbers, the mixed fishery will be replenished in coming weeks with the release of 6000 barramundi.
In addition to fish restocking Lake Lenthall has undergone foreshore improvements and camping is now also permitted.
“A few of our members managed to get out for a social fish before the bass arrived from Bundaberg,” association president Scott Mitchell said.
“They landed bass to 40cm as well as a number of barramundi at 55cm.”
The Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association is made of up of local business owners, recreational anglers, government body representatives and members of the public.
Members share the same goal of working towards sustainable fish stocks through conservation-based management.
“The area is looking sensational and the lake’s fishing well – this is a good sign that previous releases have been successful and we hope to see some great fishing with the dam hovering at 100 per cent level of capacity.”
