WINTER in Brisbane so far has slowly but surely seen the mercury drop which means a change of species in the bay. You usually see the days clear up and subsequently the water too. It’s always a good time to target a few cephalopods, especially the resident tiger squid.
We got onto some good numbers over the weekend which we released boat side as I’ve taken delivery in the last week of a brand new, very white boat and am still a bit precious about the black ink being shot all over it!
We mostly throw Yamashita jigs in the 2.0/2.2 sizes in natural colours and as the water is super clear, 3kg straight through fluorocarbon seems to produce the best results.
When you find them they can be around in pods of about 6-8 and it’s very cool watching them morph in and out of attack configurations and colours as they charge the jigs – just be careful of that ink!
Happy Egiing!
