Lights … camera … fish!

FILMING for another eight clips in Fishing World’s How-To video series got underway this week at Coffs Harbour.

On previous visits to this prolific part of the NSW coast the Fisho crew have experienced red hot fishing, especially for the big snapper the Coffs region is renowned for. While we were hoping for more of the same action to complement one of the new clips, Mr Red was unfortunately conspicuous by his absence this week. A combination of a full moon, glass-like seas and no current proved an unwanted mix for our only day offshore on Tuesday this week. But thanks to the efforts of a couple of locals – Mark Luttrell of Coffs Harbour Marine and Mark Mikkelsen of Shimano – who kindly skippered Fisho on their boats on the day, we managed to turn a reel a few times and had plenty of fun doing so.  We also did plenty of whale watching…

Gun photographer Shane Chalker was also along for a couple of days helping out and looking for opportunities to shoot some of his brand of brilliant fishing images. While he didn’t get as many photo opps as he might have liked Shane managed to pull the only decent fish of the day while offshore, a cracking pearl perch of around 5kgs.

During the week we’ve covered quite a few kilometres and different terrain with locations on a beach and estuary system south of Coffs and the picturesque Bellinger River.

Our filming this week was sponsored by Fishing Tackle Australia, which is a massive store on the Princes Highway as you drive into town and where our last day of filming wrapped up. Fisho would like to thank all the extremely knowledgable and helpful staff of FTA who made the job a lot easier for a couple of amateur video makers in Scott Thomas and myself. It’s now up to Nat Marsh – who’s usually both behind the camera and editing desk on Fisho’s How-To clips – to weave his editing magic on our raw footage. Stay tuned for the final product. I know we will be…
