AFTER the historic return of 6,500 Macquarie perch fingerlings to the Macquarie-Wambuul catchment near Bathurst last year, this newly re-established population has received a boost with an additional 1,230 fingerlings.

These endangered fish were bred at the Narrandera Fisheries Centre, utilising the combination of groundbreaking new hormone technology and innovative habitat simulation. NSW DPI Fisheries says this is another great step forward in the recovery of this unique and highly regarded species.

The Macquarie perch breeding program was recently featured on ABC’s Landline program, available online here: iview.abc.net.au/show/landline/series/0/video/RF2204Q005S00
